Darlene Lightner Ripper went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 21, 2020. She was 91 years of age and passed while in residence at Elmcroft of Austin. She was born on November 2, 1928, to Harold and Maude Lightner in Hastings, Nebraska.
She was the Manager of Hancock Fabrics on Airport Blvd in Austin, Texas for many years. Her desire to provide excellent service often resulted in her store being in the top 10 Sellers across the nation. She was the Number One Store when she worked hard to personally order special fabrics for high school, college and theatre productions. She loved helping these production groups, especially working with the directors and young students. She was very proud of her country and the military and had her store wrapped in a huge yellow ribbon to welcome the troops of Desert Storm home. She enjoyed working with employees, customers and the public. Her other great love was her faith and attending church. She enjoyed singing the Old Gospel songs and knew every word. She attended many different churches over the years, but her favorite was Woodlawn Baptist for the richness of the services and the wonderful fellowship. She was saddened when her health deteriorated and she could not physically attend the services anymore. She especially loved reading the Holy Bible, especially the Gospel of John and used that book to refresh her faith and security in her Savior. She was blessed with both physical and spiritual beauty and prayed continually for her family, friends and those she felt would benefit from prayers. Her greatest love on earth was her family. She truly exhibited the spirit and unconditional love of Jesus Christ and lived her life without judgement or prejudice against anyone.
The loss of her physical presence is mourned by her children, Linda Yeatts and her husband Malcolm Yeatts, Marshall Alexander, and a sister Jane Bowman of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, step children and extended families that she loved and looked forward to seeing on special occasions and holidays. She would help her neighbors who did not have cars to grocery shop.
