Round Rock – Dave was a doting husband, loving father to his two daughters, and a very cool Opa to his granddaughter and grandson. We are thankful he can finally rest and be at peace after bravely fighting brain lymphoma for 2 ½ years.
Dave was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Les and Mary Boerstler, with most of his childhood years spent in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, and then accepted a job in Poughkeepsie, New York with IBM as an electrical engineer. He later completed a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University. Dave married Patricia Sherlene Jewett on September 18, 1982, in Millbrook, NY. While living in Millbrook they were blessed with two daughters: Jennifer Elaine on November 3, 1988 and Kimberly Rose on August 2, 1990. In 1994 the family moved to Round Rock, Texas while Dave continued to work for IBM. Dave later accepted a job with Global Foundries as a patent engineer. He considered this his favorite job and worked there until his retirement in 2020. Over the course of his career he had over 140 patents filed for his inventions.
Dave had a passion for all music, particularly rock and roll, playing bass, electric and acoustic guitar. He was very accomplished at Texas barbecuing – perfecting the smoked brisket. He also loved good beer, fine wine and excellent bourbons, driving fast cars, and the challenge of baking sourdough breads. He had a huge heart for all animals and an immense love of the mountains.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia, daughter Jennifer Ibarra and husband Jesus Elio, daughter Kimberly Boerstler, grandchildren Olivia Charlotte Ibarra and Jesus Elio Ibarra, III, sister Joanne Noack and husband Ken, and pets Copper, Penny and Cleo.
A small, private funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at St. Richard’s Episcopal Church in Round Rock, Texas. Burial will be at the Cook-Walden/Capital Park Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
