Delia Teresa Villarreal passed away peacefully on February 15, 2022, at the age of 84. Teresa, a beloved daughter of God, lived a full life as a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman. She was an inspiration to many, and she will be dearly missed and forever cherished in our hearts.
Teresa was born on June 2, 1937, in Robstown, Texas to Teresa and Mateo G. Bosquez. She married Roque H. Villarreal, her childhood friend of 80 years, neighbor, and the “love of her life” on June 11, 1960. Together, they raised three children, Roque, David and Cynthia in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Teresa graduated from Robstown High School in 1955 and attended Texas Women’s University (TWU) in Denton, Texas, as well Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. After graduating from TWU in 1958 with a degree in Home Economics, she began her teaching career with the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD). She found teaching students at various district elementary schools to be an incredibly fulfilling and meaningful experience.
Teresa earned a master’s in education administration at Corpus Christi State University in 1980. With this advanced degree, she served as an instructional facilitator, assistant principal, and later principal for various CCISD elementary schools until she retired in 1993.
Once she retired, the travel adventures began. Teresa and Roque moved to Round Rock, Texas, and began to travel with friends and family. She and Roque enjoyed taking cruises. Cruising to the Caribbean and Mexico, venturing through the Panama Canal, crossing the Pacific Ocean to sail around the Hawaiian Islands, touring Alaska and Denali National Park, seeing the fall leaves from Boston to Maine, cruising from Seattle to see the Pacific Northwest, sightseeing in the Mediterranean from Venice to Rome, and sailing to faraway St. Petersburg, Russia. Teresa was a world traveler, and she cherished these incredible adventures. From trips within the U.S. to Washington, D.C., Memphis, Denver, and Houston, or grand trips to London, Rome, and Ireland, Teresa loved to travel and to document her journeys in scrapbooks and photo albums.
Teresa loved Roque and they shared many great times together in their almost 62 years of marriage. She was the life of the party and loved to host family and friends. She wanted everyone to have a good time by playing Mexican Train dominoes, cards, or another game to get everyone, especially the grandchildren, involved in the fun.
In addition to her love of travel, Teresa loved to cook and to bake for her family and friends. She enjoyed sharing family recipes for ojarascas, empanadas, tamales, and sugar tortillas with her children and grandchildren to ensure that the family traditions continued. Teresa loved to crochet and crocheted numerous blankets for family members, which they treasure to this day. Teresa began sewing her own clothes when she started working as a teacher and she continued to sew in her later years by sewing baby blankets.
Gardening was her passion! Teresa loved to be outside working in the garden. The flowers and plants in the garden flourished under her loving care. It was in her nature to care and to nurture. Teresa always said a small prayer each time she planted a flower in the garden. Teresa was a woman of faith. She attended bible study classes, small faith groups, retreats, including an ACTS retreat, and was active with the Catholic Daughters of America. She cared deeply for others and always had a smile to share. She blessed so many with her love and zest for life.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Gloria Benavides. She is survived by her husband, Roque H. Villarreal; her children, Roque (Karen) Villarreal II, David (Kim) Villarreal, Cynthia (Rodrigo) V. Reyna; her brothers, Roberto (Ninfa) Bosquez, and Mateo (Joy) G. Bosquez; nine grandchildren (Daniel Villarreal, Amanda Corbett, Leah Wright, Eric Villarreal, John Villarreal, Michael Villarreal, Alyssa Conn, Julia Montes, and Miranda Reyna); five great-grandchildren (Luke Villarreal, Olivia Villarreal, Allie Villarreal, Isaac Conn, and Sophia Corbett) and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She treasured her family and friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 1520 N. Railroad Ave., Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
