Donald Algie Durham

Don Algie Durham, beloved husband, cherished father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend left this earth to be with our Heavenly Father on December 9, 2017. He was born in Sudan, Texas on January 24th, 1931 to Algie and Beaulah Durham. He married his first wife, Rita Clopton in 1950 and they had five children together.

Don began his life long career in wiring and lighting at an early age. He began working for Atkinson Electric Company from 1954 to 1959. He then transferred to the House of Lights as a top salesman from 1959 until the shop closed in 1979. At that time, he began working as a manager of S&H Appliances until 1990. While at S&H Appliances, he met his wife to be, Mary Kay, and they married on September 4, 1982.

They remained together for 35 wonderful years and they started their own business, The Fixture Shop, located on St. John's Avenue in Austin, Texas. They eventually relocated the shop to Burnet Road until 2009 when they retired in Jarrell, Texas. During his retirement, Don continued to do lamp repairs out of his home. He especially loved creating unique and unusual lamps for his clients. Don was a very generous and likeable man with a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.

Don was preceded in death by his eldest son, Don Allen, and his wife, Mary Kay. He is survived by his children: Donna Perkins and her husband, Danny of Austin, Karen Scott of Lockhart, Roy and his wife Holly of Kyle, and Gaylon of Buda; his three stepchildren Michael, Sonya, and Simone; sisters, Alleen White of Longview and Juanita Gipson of Buda. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Seton Hospice, with special thanks for the care given to him by his nurse, Pam. A very special thank you goes to his step daughter, Sonya, for her extra love and care given to Don.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017 with a formal visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. The committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
