Donna was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell when World War II broke out. She joined the US Marine Corps in 1944 and worked as a telephone operator there as well before she was honorably discharged in 1946.
Donna served in the Marine Honor Guard for 10 years. She also worked for the State of Texas as an accountant at the Animal Health Commission for 20 years.
Donna had two passions in life: Her love of God and country western dancing. She was a charter member of the Pflugerville First United Methodist Church. She was very active with many aspects of the church. She was a fixture at the Wednesday morning prayer group, she sang in the choir, she was the church historian for many years, and she was also an ardent member of the Joy Group (Friday Bible Study Group). Her love of dancing was well known. She went to many dances as a teen with her sisters and kept on dancing well into her 80's. She was active in the VFW and she served on many boards and organized hundreds of dances at VFWs all throughout the Austin area.
She was also a Mary Kay representative for many years and made even more friends while sharing her keen insight and talents in the beauty industry. And even while keeping herself busy with all of these endeavors, she managed to be a wonderful mother to her two daughters, Britta and Cynthia and her son Daryl. She was also was the step-mother to son Mike Baldwin.
We will all miss her shining spirit and commitment to the Lord and her family.
Donna was predeceased by her sister Blanche Campbell Smith, her daughter Britta Herzog and grandson Carlisle (Trey) Edmund Bryan, III. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Mitchell Speakman, son Daryl (Diana) Baldwin, sister Jean Campbell Peet, grandson Kyle Mitchell Speakman and step son Mike Baldwin.
A memorial service celebrating Donna's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 13, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Pfugerville, Texas.
