Born in McDade, Dora was the youngest of four and grew up on a small farm with her family. She became a Christian at a young age when she was saved at the Church of Christ. She graduated high school 1948 from Elgin High School and moved to Austin to work as a telephone operator and waitress. She met her soul mate, Max Waldo Stone, Sr, after he returned from the war. They were married and two years later welcomed their first son, Max Stone, Jr in 1951, second son, Michael Stone, in 1953 and their daughter in 1955. She was devoted to raising her children and managing office duties at the multiple businesses they created including Western Tile, Stone Solvents and Austin Marble Company. Many years later in order to be closer to grandkids, they relocated their home and their business to Georgetown. A dedicated and hardworking business owner she did not retire until the age of 85 when she sold the company.
Dora Mae Stone enjoyed shopping mostly at Beall’s and dressing up her granddaughters when they were young in matching, beautiful, frilly dresses. Once becoming a great-grandma, she enjoyed watching, laughing and taking photos of their play. A loving mom, grandma and great-grandma she was known for being able to quiet any child with pointing her finger and giving a stern look. You knew she meant business and it also worked on adults. She was active in Eastern Star, The Social Order of the Beauceant and supported her husband in Colorado Commandry. She loved listening to George Strait, petting her cats, eating Snickers, watching the Braves play and traveling with her family, friends and in her later years with a tour group.
Dora was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Max Stone, Sr., devoted son, Max Stone, Jr, loving daughter, Georgie Mae Stone and her siblings, Alice Montgomery, Dale Sowell, and Lottie Frasier.
She leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Virginia Stone, grandchildren, Donna Stone, Misty Holland, Rena Everett, Crystal Stone-Wimpee, Tanya VanPelt and Matthew Stone as well as great-grandchildren, James and Samantha Miller, Allyson and Abigail Holland, Corey and Tyler Everett, Becker Wimpee, Myles and Mikayla VanPelt, Gregory Thomas, Levi, and Emry Stone. She was also a great-great-grandma to Alice Mae Miller.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks funeral home on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Funeral Services will also be held Cook-Walden/Capital Parks funeral home on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
