

Dorothy Ann Hobbs, 84, of Austin, passed away on February 25, 2017. She was born on July 7, 1932 in Austin, Texas to Cecil and Viola (Gest) Whitehead. She graduated from Austin High School in 1949. It was at Austin High School that she met the love of her life, Joe Junior Hobbs, and they were married in September of that same year. They were married for 65 years before Joe passed away in 2014.
Dorothy started working in the 1950s, and worked her entire life. She worked for the State of Texas and the federal government at Bergstrom Air Force Base before going to work for the family business, Mitchell Time and Parking.
Dorothy and Joe loved to square dance, and became members of the Austin Square and Round Dance Association in 1957. They were instrumental in forming the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers, of which they were President in 1968-1969. They loved to travel, and went all over the United States for various conventions and meetings, and made life-long friendships along the way. Dorothy and Joe also loved to gamble, and they took many trips to Las Vegas and Shreveport, Louisiana.
Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents and her beloved husband. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary Joe and wife Jean Hobbs of Pflugerville and Bary Louis and wife Karol Hobbs of Austin; grandsons, Bradley and wife Amanda, Kevin and wife, Jessica, Nathan and wife, Kathryn, and Thomas Hobbs; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth and husband Jesse Villalobos; great-grandsons, Wyatt and Keyton Hobbs; and her sister, Frances Taylor of Irving, Texas.
Honoring Dorothy as pallbearers will be Bradley Hobbs, Kevin Hobbs, Nathan Hobbs, Thomas Hobbs, Cody Wilson, Jasen Fonseca, Tyler Lane and Shawn O’Neal.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the funeral home chapel. She will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
