Dorothy Estella Turner passed away in her home at the age of 83 in Round Rock, Texas on Monday, August 6, 2012. With her husband of 57 years holding her hand and all her children, a granddaughter and grandson surrounding her with love.
Blessed by her arrival on July 14, 1929 and heartbroken by her departure on August 6, 2012. Dorothy Estella Hodges, daughter of Edgar and Naomi Hodges, was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She had an older sister, Ruth, and a twin sister, Delores. Mom and her twin were known by all who loved them as “Dottie and Dodo”.
Dorothy married Edward Turner on September 3, 1955. From their union of 57 years came a total of nine children. They each had children before their marriage. Mom with two, and dad with three, so they shared the love of nine children between them.
Dorothy worked for years inside the home and for many years outside the home. She worked for a doctor in Shawnee, Oklahoma and for the State of Texas Department of Human Resources until she retired. Mom loved a good movie, or book. She was also quite the bowler in her day. But her greatest focus was caring for her children and husband. For many years she wore the “Chauffeur” hat with pride and pleasure.
She started her family in Oklahoma. There were several moves along the way from Lubbock, to Charlottesville, VA, and then to Austin. After opening Turners Furniture in Round Rock, they moved their final move to Round Rock. They enjoyed many years growing the business, making friends, and searching for the right church to settle into. They found, after much searching, a home at Leander First Assembly of God. Mom and dad became loving members with a very generous heart. Always giving weekly and contributing much to the building of the new church in Leander. Mom was a very giving woman to all with a need.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ruth, her beloved twin sister, Delores, first son Jack and his wife Tera.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband Edward Turner; children, Jeanie Pruitt, Mark Turner, Julie Gilbert, Melanie Keel, Holly Osborn, Butch “Eddie” Turner, Diane Hendrickson, and Rick Turner. Although our brother Jack is no longer with us, his daughter, Scarlett Clay, held a very special place in Mom’s heart. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, and friends with heavy hearts.
Mother taught us all to care for one another and love your family no matter what happens in life. Her grace and kindness were shining examples of how one should live.
Those who loved her and spent the last days with her are forever grateful for the time given to us. Dorothy out lived her parents and sisters by more than 20 years, and her husband Ed and all her children thank the Lord everyday for the time we had.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Please join the family in a celebration of Dorothy’s life this Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Leander First Assembly of God Church, 1006 S. Hwy 183, Leander, Texas.
