Master Sergeant Dwight Douglas Alex, aka “Duck” (Ret.) of Pflugerville, TX. passed away on June 16, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born from the union of Tommie James Alex and Carrie Dell Blanton (Alex), on June 15, 1950, in Longview, TX, where they also grew up.
Duck graduated from Longview High School in Longview, Texas, and went on to have a 23-year career in the United States Air Force as a non-commissioned officer, followed by a 24-year career as a Mail Handler with the United States Postal Service. He also worked for a few years at Crockett High School as a truancy officer, where he earned great respect from the student body and earned the nickname “Hightower”.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was actively involved in the church as a trustee, an avid outdoorsman, an amateur carpenter, a domino player, a lover of sports and music, a life of the party, and a family man. He was happiest when he was surrounded by all his children and grandchildren. Unbeknownst to him, he was viewed and respected as a father-like figure to several individuals. He truly was a Daddy and not just a father. He leaves behind an incredible legacy.
Duck is preceded in death by his father, Tommie James Alex (Longview, TX); his mother, Carrie Dell Alex (Longview, TX); and two brothers, Claude Edward Alex (Longview, TX) and Bruce Edwin Alex (Longview, TX).
Duck is survived by his wife, Janice Marie Alex (Pflugerville, TX); three daughters Alexis Denise Alex (Pflugerville, TX), Alisha Rochelle Alex (Pflugerville, TX), and Deedra LaVonne Alex-Tate (Derrick Lamont Tate) of Red Oak, TX; five grandchildren Jalyn Shatori Alex-Snearl, D’Vante Dwight Alex-Snearl, Amani LaVonne Alex-Hutchinson, Davian Loren Alex-Tate, and Daylon Lamont Alex-Tate; family pet: TJ Alex; siblings, Willie James Alex (Verna Jean Alex) of Fort Worth, TX, Jessie Earl Alex (Longview, TX), Peggy Ann Alex (Longview, TX), Brenda Sue (Alex) Durham (DeSoto, TX), and Jacquelyn Lavern (Alex) Palmer (Longview, TX); nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
