Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ann McMillan Stern, 88, died peacefully on February 12th 2012. She was born on August 3rd , 1923 in Pontiac, Ill. to John and Eva McMillan. She grew up in Chicago, Ill. She attended the Chicago Art Institute and Bryant Strayton Business College. During World War II she worked for the Army 6th service command. Betty married Maurice Stern on December 18th, 1943 in Evanston Ill. They celebrated 68 years of marriage together in 2011.
Betty was a talented artist and loved painting with watercolor that was her favorite medium. She donated many of her paintings to various charities. She was an avid golfer and in retirement participated in many tournaments while living in Florida. Betty was a skilled pianist who enjoyed all types of music.
Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Her great belief as a Christian and in her savior Jesus Christ serves as her legacy to her family. She was very active in church work and always willing to give of her time and talents. She loved her family and delighted in her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, a son, Richard Edward Stern, and her granddaughter, Elizabeth Rose Moser.
Betty is survived by her husband, Maurice Harry Stern. Her children, Gail Stern Bowman of Austin, John Harry Stern and wife, Linda, of Georgia, Linda Maureen Carpenter and husband, Edward, of Colorado, and Richard Edward Stern‘s wife, Janette, of Colorado. Her grandchildren, David Bowman, Jennifer Stern, Mark Stern, Brent Stern and wife, Catie, RJ Moser, Chris Stern, Michele Stern and great-granddaughter, Illyana Foster. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Hjorth, and her husband, Warren, her brother, Richard McMillan, and wife, Grace, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM,Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks. Visitation will be held prior to the service begining at 2:30 PM. Interment will follow at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
