

Emma was born on January 27, 1943, in Hamilton, Texas to Arlos and Georgia “Faye” Thornton. After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1961, she married Elmer Gootman, and they had two children, Terry and Sherri. She lived in Austin, TX for 61 years, where she worked for St. David’s Hospital, National Western Life Insurance, Foley’s and Kohl’s. She was a faithful member of the University Hills Church of Christ and Cameron Road Church of Christ. She married Emmit Decuir in 1988, whom she stood faithfully beside until his final days.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Emma among other things will be remembered for her resilience, her generosity, her devotion and trust in Christ and the legacy of love she has left to her kids, grandkids, extended family and friends. She was a breast cancer survivor for over 31 years and was a warrior until even her last moments.
Emma is survived by her sister, Elsie Lou; her daughter, Sherri Price; her three grandchildren, Karisa Price, Kyleigh Holle and husband Chris, and Caleb Price; and her great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlos Vernon and Georgia “Faye” Thornton; her sister, Wanda Sue Leitko; her brother, William Arthur Thornton; her husband, Emmit Decuir; her son, Terry Gootman, as well as other family members and friends.
A service in remembrance of Emma’s life will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas with Minister Terry Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
Family and friends are also invited to a time of visitation and fellowship on Saturday evening, April 26, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home. Refreshments will be served as we gather to share memories and celebrate Emma’s life together.
