Ernest was born on July 22 to Pablo and Juanita Guerra in Lockhart, Texas. Ernest was the second to youngest of seven children. By elementary age, the Guerra’s relocated to 79 Rainey St. in Austin, Tx.
Ernest was a proud graduate of the original Austin High School Class of 1962. Soon after graduation he would meet and marry the love of his life, Janie Coy. The two proudly raised two sons and one daughter and were married for 51+ years before Janie’s passing in 2015.
Over the years, Ernest proudly worked for Bealls department store and then began his printing career at Nelson Typesetting. With great honor he retired from the State of Texas after 25+ years from the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission agency. Once retired he was ready to enjoy more time with Janie and his grandchildren.
Ernest was a very proud Longhorn fan and because of his love for UT football he also worked as a football stadium usher for over 25 years. He was there to witnessed Ricky Williams break the All- Time Rushing record in 1998. He also witnessed the Longhorns win in the longest baseball game in NCAA history with 25 innings lasting seven hours and three minutes in 2009. On top of any UT or Dallas Cowboy game, his favorite team to watch was that of his kids and grandkids. No matter where the game was he tried to make every one of them to cheer them on and to let them know that he was their biggest fan and always will be.
Ernest was the best father, father- in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in- law, uncle, nephew, and friend. He impacted lots of lives with his kindness, helpfulness and his big heart. Our dad will be forever our hero and his legacy of family first, unconditional love, living life with no regrets, and Burnt Orange will live on forever.
He is survived by his children, David C. Guerra of Austin, Ron C. Guerra of Manor, and Erica G. Piña and her husband, Adam Piña Jr., of Pflugerville. Also left to cherish his memory are eight grandchildren: Johnny Guerra, Marisela Guerra, Jacob Guerra, Cierra Guerra, Isaac Guerra, Chelsea Guerra, Sophia Piña and Amelia Piña. He was also blessed with 5 great-grandchildren.
Ernest was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Janie C Guerra; his parents, Pablo and Juanita Guerra; his sister, Pauline Geiger; and brother, Benny Guerra.
