Espiridiona "Pio" E. Martinez

Pio was born on March 29, 1936, in Leander, Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was well known for her cooking and seamstress skills. She was of member of the Joy Group rosary team and a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion at Cristo Rey Catholic Church. Pio enjoyed helping others, dancing, singing and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jane Ann Rodriguez; father, Dario Escalante; mother, Soledad Moncada; stepfather, Joaquin Moncada; brothers, Leandro, Manuel, Antonio, Martin, Eulogio, and Jesse; sisters, Amelia, Conception, Blasa, and Augustina; and her beloved granddaughter, Rosanna.

Pio is survived by her faithful husband of 40 years, Aurelio O. Martinez; daughters, Dolores R. Posada, Celia Ann Velazquez (Jose), Senaida Rodriguez (Carlos Barboza), and Andrea Barratachea; stepchildren, Hector Aurelio Martinez (Aurelia), Graciela Martinez (Euladio), Irene Martinez (Antonio), and Aurelio Martinez Jr. (Brenda); granddaughters, Leti, DeAnna, Raven, Veronica, Felicia, and Sylvia Rose; grandsons, Joseph, Leon, Rolando, and Carl; twelve step-grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Janie E. Villela; numerous nieces, nephews, and god-children.

The family will greet guests at a visitation to be held on Wednesday, June 12 from 5-8pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas. The Most Holy Rosary will be recited beginning at 7pm. The Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 13 at 10 am at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 2110 East 2nd Street, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers are: Antonio Guzman, Sr., Eugene Guzman, Jr., Steve Escalante, Frank Garza, Jr., Daniel Bedell, and John Edward Villela.

The family would like to thank the Seton Medical staff, Hospice Austin, all those that came from far and near to visit, and everyone else for their thoughts and prayers.
