Eugene Otto Eilers

Eugene was born on April 27th, 1927 in Rutersville, Texas to Hugo and Alma Eilers. He grew up on a farm in Fayette County and at the age of 18, he enlisted into the US Army where he served as a cook for one year. He later married his wife, in 1951, and soon after moved to Austin where they raised their three daughters.

In 1992 he retired from Red Arrow Freight Lines after working 42 years at a job he loved as a truck driver, which included a perfect driving record. Before retiring, his dream of owning his own farm was realized when he purchased land in Mills County in 1984. For nearly 40 years he was proud to be able to share his land, love of the country, farming and ranching with his family. Raising cattle brought him the most joy.

His favorite pastime was watching sports on television. Baseball, football and basketball were what he enjoyed best. He also got a kick out of Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Mollie B and Big Joe Polka Show.

Papa was a kind and humble man. He was a good provider and he loved his whole family unconditionally. He shared and exhibited wisdom, faithfulness, a strong work ethic and a wonderful sense of humor. His family is so proud of him and will cherish the memories he gave them and the stories he so enjoyed telling.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice Eilers, his parents, and his sister, Luceil Koopmann. He is survived by his three daughters, Carol Ann Scott, Ruby Jean Eilers and Linda Kay Freeman; grandchildren, Christine O’Connor [Neale O’Connor], James Scott [Joy Scott], Josh Stutsman, Julie Brooks [Michael Brooks], Quinton Freeman; great-grandchildren, Katherine Sullivan-Scott, Cody Brooks, Daniel Sullivan-Scott, Kinsey Brooks, Zachary Sullivan-Scott, Nico Freeman, Tye Stutsman; brother David Eilers [Sara Eilers].

A visitation for Eugene will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m., 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A committal will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A reception will occur Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
