

Felipe was born July 31, 1958 in Rosebud, Texas. He graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1979.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1979 to 1992. He was a Gunnery Sergeant and completed machine gunner at Infantry Training School at Camp Pendleton, California. He qualified for the 100 Mile Club Award by running 100 miles in increments of not less than three non-stop miles while stationed at the Naval Air Station Alameda California. He was awarded Certificate of Good Conduct while stationed at Charleston, South Carolina. He was Marine of the month at the Marine Barracks, Naval Weapon Station Charleston, S.C.
He completed Marksmanship Instructor School given at Weapons Training Battalion, MCRD, Parris Island S.C. He was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island S.C. He was also a Marine Recruiter at the Marine Corp Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. He completed Terrorism Counteraction, Combat Intelligence, Rifle Platoon in the Defense, Advanced Tactics, Amphibious Operations, Law Enforcement Training, Techniques of Military Instructions, Nuclear Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense at the Marine Corp Institute, in Washington, D.C.
During his time in the Marine Corp he oversaw Marine Funeral details. Felipe was fortunate to Escort First Lady Nancy Reagan, Maria Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, known as Cory Aquino, who served as the 11th President, of the Philippines and Leonard Nimoy from Star Trek. Felipe always said, "Once a Marine, always a Marine".
Felipe worked at Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) where he enjoyed helping people. He also worked at Travis County as a Juvenile Probation Officer and at Williamson County Academy where he was a Drill Instructor. He worked at the Lubbock Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was also President of the American GI Forum in Lubbock Texas. He was a past member of the American Legion in Austin Texas.
Felipe was a loving, kind, funny, charismatic and joyful person. He was always telling jokes, acting crazy and was the life of the party. He would do anything to help people out. He was also known for being very straight forward; he never sugar-coated anything. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him and loved him.
Felipe's greatest joy in life was his family. He loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren. Felipe had such love and pride for his wife and children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo Garcia Sr. and Julia Chaves Garcia; Brothers Emilio Garcia, and Gonzalo Garcia Jr.
Felipe is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Yolanda; children, Brittany Chyanne Chambers (Johnathan Hinojosa) of Killeen, Dylan and Chastity Garcia of Austin and Brianna Ramirez (Justin) of Plains; grandchildren, Cataleya Elaine Hinojosa of Killeen and Braxton, Mason and Brylee Ramirez of Plains. He is also survived by his sisters, Nina Castilleja of Lubbock, Susie Segura of Hale Center; and his brothers, Verndalino Garcia of Cotton Center and Frank Garcia of Lubbock.
A Celebration of Life for Felipe Garcia will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 07, 2020 in The Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home Pflugerville, Texas.
