Elder Floyd P. Givens, affectionately known as “Perry” to close friends and family, was born on January 11, 1949 to the late Johnnie Givens and Gurtie Mae Middleton Givens, both of Manor, Texas. He is preceded in death by both parents and two sisters, Ruth Ella Williams and Derotha B. Middleton.
In April of 1986 Elder Givens met the love of his life, Mattie Frances Kelly. On June 20, 1987 they were united in holy matrimony, and from this union came a blended family of four beautiful daughters. Elder Givens was a man of purpose, and he took his marriage vows seriously. Therefore, he was a committed and faithful husband who loved his wife dearly for 30 years. With that same intense love, he was a father and grandfather that treasured his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Elder Givens worked for Sysco Food Distributors and retired after 34 faithful years.
An easygoing kind of man with a gentle spirit, Elder Givens loved fishing, barbecuing, and spending time with family and friends. He was a master of masters on the barbecue grill, and everyone who had the pleasure of tasting his barbecue loved it. When he wasn't barbecuing, he was either spending time with family and friends, supporting his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys, or enjoying old western movies.
Elder Givens was a devout Christian at the Kingdom of God Christian Center for 20 years. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and had an intentional relationship with Him. One could always find Elder sharing the great news and many blessings God offered to all. He was certified as a licensed Minister of the Gospel on January 13, 2002, licensed as an Elder on October 22, 2006, and a graduate of Sonship School Of The Firstborn in 2014.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mattie Givens; his daughters Tamitha Blackmon of Austin, TX, Nichole Blackmon of Washington D.C., Jacqueline Miles (Melvin Sr.) of Kyle, TX, Monica Davis (Ron) of Saint Michael, MN. Eight grandchildren, Lauren, Melvin Jr., Vance, Justin, Zachary, Khia, Madison, and Ryan. Four great grandchildren, Kyrie, London, Janson, and Bryson. He also leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Bobbie Redford (Willie), Cynthia Crayton (Ralph), and Annie Devoe all of Austin, TX, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be a visitation for family and friends Friday, February 24, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Grant A.M.E. Worship Center, 1701 Kramer Lane in Austin.
