Georgina was born in Shanghai, China January 26, 1941 and grew up there until the entire family fled to Hong Kong as Chairman Mao’s Communist Party came to power. Shortly thereafter, she boarded a boat to Australia, started her high school years and later was accepted into the University of Sydney. Wilson Chu (eventual husband) convinced Georgina to join him in Austin, Texas where the two attended and graduated from The University of Texas. She graduated with a BBA in Accounting in 1967. Georgina Chu was instrumental in bringing her siblings to study and graduate from The University of Texas. This began the Chu Family legacy which has grown to over 30 graduates and counting. She married Wilson Chu in 1965 and remained in Austin where she raised 2 children, Louis and Gina, while working as an accountant for over 30 years at Texas Education Agency. The early family years had Georgina playing chauffeur to both her children’s extracurriculars. Her children were her pride and joy. Frequent weekend trips to Houston to spend time with siblings were also her delight. She later retired and took on a new role as a loving grandmother and also caretaker for her own mom.
Georgina was proud of her Texas roots and embraced her family heritage, telling stories of her parents and journey to America up until her final days. The things from her life she was most proud of were family and education. To her, family and education were keys that opened doors to opportunities for a more brighter and happier life.
Georgina was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Chu; parents Chit Yen Chu and Koon Ding Chun Chu; siblings Grace Lang, Richard Chu and Shirley Chu.
She is survived by her children Louis (Joann) and Gina (Jackson). She also leaves behind her grandchildren Matthew, Cassidy, Gaby and KK; her siblings Philip Chu and Patty Lamb.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Longleaf Assisted Living/Beacon Hospice and the amazing nurses who cared for and ensured her comfort during her final days.
