December 18, 1955 was an exceptionally happy day for Geral’s parents, Lorenzo Johnson and Jacqueline Woodard Johnson of Norfolk, VA. Geral became their second oldest son.
Geral grew up in a military family, giving him the desire to travel and surround himself with people from other countries, ethnicities, and various cultures.
Geral met the love of his life, Kathryn, affectionately called Kathy at his workplace, Travis County where Kathy became a probation officer. Romance blossomed in 1985 then after a short engagement the couple entered Holy matrimony on November 5, 1987. Beginning their lives as one, they were blessed with one son, Ian. The couple didn’t always agree on parenting styles, however, they always agreed on the importance and power of prayer.
Geral’s goals were to honor God first, then man second if it didn’t conflict with God’s word. Geral used to say, “I’m a work in progress”. His personality was closer to Peter and as God worked on his heart he slowly and continuously became more like James, keeping the best parts of the disciples Peter and James. What an awesome mixture!
Geral and Kathy’s devotion to Christ Jesus kept their marriage alive for over 35 years. One of Geral’s goals in life was to become financially and spiritually savvy. Growing in financial wisdom was easy for Geral. He was on an incline for years in his spiritual life then in the last three weeks of his life he gained renewed strength, insight and wisdom that surpasses plain understanding.
Geral’s major status traits were dedication and commitment - to keep on trying when others would have given up. His love language was gift giving without expecting anything in return. Geral aspired in team building, organization, financial wisdom. He had a love for art appreciation, classical and spiritual music. He loved to help people with learning skills that came easy to him, building computers, helping those who have an entrepreneur desire.
Geral was on the Southwest general conference for the school board as well as the school board for the Applegate Christian Adventist Academy. One of his big desires was to influence others to reach their highest potential academically and/or as an entrepreneur.
Many times, Geral was regarded as “the host with the most”. He mastered many skills, financial advising, financial presentations, building super computers, cooking, house cleaning, sewing, or patching clothes, trimming trees and the list goes on.
Geral’s adult life started out in the US Army as an accounting clerk at age 17. His last job before retirement, he was a financial advisor giving advice to presidents of credit unions.
What did Geral cherish mostly? Being a sinner saved by grace. He believed no matter your life situation, you have an awesome opportunity to be saved and live throughout eternity with God and other believers.
