Gerald "Jerry" Ray Peña, 48, entered into a peaceful rest on the evening of Friday, September 26, 2014 in Austin, TX. He was born on September 28, 1965 in Beeville, TX to the late Guadalupe Peña and Thomasa Perez. Gerald, known as “Jerry” to most of his family and “G” to his friends, was a devoted Husband, supportive Father, proud Grandfather, loving Brother, and caring Friend.
He had many passions in life that kept his days full of happiness and his heart full of joy. His greatest pleasure was admiring his one true love, his wife of 28 years, Joann Peña. His proudest moments in life were watching his Son, Justin, graduate from Texas State University and walking his Daughter, Jackie, down the aisle. He loved spending his Saturdays in the fall with his family and friends watching the UT Longhorns play football. He also enjoyed watching Pro Football with his Monday Night Football Crew. Some friends remember the excitement he had when taking weekend motorcycle trips with them to Bandera and Llano. Others relish in the memories of the late night Tejano jam sessions where DJ Gerald shared his love for records. He enjoyed sipping on a glass of wine while cooking with his wife. He also had a passion for muscle cars, fantasy football, poker, hosting crawfish boils and Superbowl parties. He’d probably tell you that he could have been a professional athlete if it weren’t for his dedication to his generous employer of 27 years, Farm Credit Bank. He was proud to be a part of their team and was happy to call it his home away from home. There were so many things in life that Gerald enjoyed but none more than being a devout servant to his Lord Jesus Christ. He was thankful for his Pastor Juan Aleman for his teachings and help in strengthening his relationship with God.
Cherishing his memory are: grand-daughter; Juliana Blackaller of Austin; son-in-law, Brad Blackaller of Austin, 8 brothers; Phillip (Tamir) Peña of Houston, Joe Peña of Yoakum, John (Roxana) Peña of Pettus, Michael Peña of Pettus, Stanley Peña of Yoakum, Alfred (Cindy) Peña of Beeville, Thomas Peña of Beeville, and Eric Peña of Beeville; one sister; Evie Cherry of Yoakum; father and mother-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Albert Perez of Yoakum; Sisters-in-law, Anna (Richard) Saucier of Victoria, Cathy (Brandon) Price of Austin; 19 nieces and nephews, hosts of other relatives and friends.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family feels Gerald would request that offerings be made to The Seed House of Praise, 4201 W Parmer Ln #A275 Austin, TX 78727 (Memo: Gerald Pena offering).
The family sincerely appreciates the services provided by Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home during their time of mourning. They are thankful for their family, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ who prayed daily for their strength and peace. They would also like to thank their Pastors Juan and Ruth Aleman for their continuous support and leadership.
