Gertrude was a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Called “Nanny” by her grandchildren, who utterly adored her, this designation was also adopted by others who crossed paths with her. To meet her was to love her and to feel loved by her, and in that way, she wasn’t just ours, she was a figure of love and light for everyone who was lucky enough to know her. To love—that was her gift, and one she shared freely.
Gertrude married the love of her life too many years ago to count, and they showed us all the very picture of what true love should be: enduring, kind, and unwavering. She spoke often of how lucky she was to have him, and she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt how very much he loved her. She lived a long and full life, from Rockport to Austin, spreading light every step of the way. Her lovely garden was well admired, especially the flowers that she raised with the same care and attention that she gave so freely to all around her. In the past she was a teacher, and she never stopped teaching. From how to sew, to how to garden, to how to love unconditionally. She was a sweet, pious woman who loved God deeply. She was and is a treasure, and that treasure has returned to His care.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Melissa. She is survived by her loving husband, two daughters, and six grandbabies, and five great-grandbabies. Her memory will live on in their hearts, always.
