Gladys was a cherished, loving mom, wife, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was born in Gonzales, Texas on May 15, 1933 to John and Vlasta Velek Peterek. Gladys graduated from Gonzales High School in 1950. In1951 she moved with her parents to Austin where she met her husband George Edward Hardin. They were married on May 12, 1954. She was employed with Texas Department of Public Safety for 32 years retiring in 1993.
Gladys and George had 5 children; an infant son, George Edward, Jr, who passed away at birth, three daughters, Barbara Hardin Farris, Katharine Elizabeth Hardin, Georgette Marie Hardin and a son Mark Edward Hardin.
Gladys is preceded in death by her infant son, her parents and two brothers, Milton Peterek & Robert Peterek. She is survived by her husband of 64 years; their children Barbara Hardin Farris and husband Phil of Wimberley; Mark Hardin, Kathy Hardin and Georgette Hardin, all of Austin; her grandchildren Jennifer Hardin Wendt and husband Mark of Willis; Mark Wesley Hardin and wife Bonnie of Houston, and Miranda Tucker (MT) Bryarly of Austin; and great-grandchildren Jonah, Reagan, Lexi, Marshall and Paige. She is also survived by her two nephews Dr. Robert Peterek and wife Marie, and Doug Peterek.
Over the years, George, Gladys, and their 4 children had the joy of traveling to Canada, Alaska and many other states, the family favorite being Colorado. Gladys enjoyed the Texas Coast, visiting often. She enjoyed camping, and supporting her family's interest in horseback and dirt bike riding. Gladys, while not a skier, would spend the days in the cold to watch her children and grandchildren ski on spring breaks in Colorado.
Gladys and George were members of Crestview and Covenant United Methodist Churches.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville with the burial to follow at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
