Gladys Elizabeth Evangeline Johnson Hermanson, 96, of Austin, Texas went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Gladys was born on April 28, 1927 and was adopted as an infant by Wesley and Agnes Johnson. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the old location of the Swedish Methodist (now Memorial United Methodist) Church of Austin, where her parents were members.
Gladys grew up in Austin and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1944 and Nixon-Clay Business College in 1946. She was a life-long member of the First Evangelical Free Church (now Austin Oaks). Music was always a great inspiration and love for Gladys and she enjoyed singing for many years in the Free Church choir and small ladies ensembles. Gladys was married to Herman Frank Hermanson on October 9, 1948 and they enjoyed almost 36 years of marriage until Herman’s passing in June of 1984. Her years of employment as a legal secretary were spent in the Legislative Sessions of the Texas House of Representatives; the Texas State Attorney General’s Oil & Gas Division, and the University of Texas System Legal Department from which she retired in 1994. After retirement Gladys enjoyed traveling, photography, scrapbooking and studying genealogy. She was always faithful in sending cards and letters to friends and family over the years. Gladys was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord, her family and many friends.
Gladys is survived by her three children: son, Don Frank Hermanson of Houston, Texas, daughter, Nancy Ann Hermanson of Elgin, Texas, and son, Alan Lee Hermanson and wife, Brenda, of Granite Shoals, Texas. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Kristen Nicole Lewis (husband John David), Elizabeth Anne Gilleland (husband Garrett), and Alan Lee, Jr. Hermanson (wife Jessica), and three great grandchildren, Remi, Brooks and Whit Lewis. Gladys was a living example of love, commitment, honesty and devotion to her beloved family and her many friends.
The family would also like to express our heartfelt thank you to the wonderful ladies who cared for mom in her home for many years. Mom was able to continue to live at home for so long because of their genuine love and tireless devotion to her well-being.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks, Pflugerville Texas. Visitation at 10:00 am, service following at 11:00 am.
