Grayce Papst, age 94, a longtime resident of Austin, Texas, passed away leaving a legacy defined by resilience, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family. Originally from New Castle, Pennsylvania, Grayce was the daughter of the late Andrew "Parente" Print and Philomena Campana Print. She shared 56 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Frank Papst, who preceded her in death in 2006.
Grayce was a master of many self-taught arts, finding joy and expression through her hands. Whether she was perfecting a recipe in the kitchen, nurturing her garden, or crafting unique pieces in ceramics, she approached every hobby with passion and skill. Her home was a reflection of these talents, filled with the warmth of her cooking and the beauty of her creations.
Known for her remarkable outlook on life and optimistic spirit, Grayce always chose to see the best in people. Even in dire situations, she had a rare gift for finding a glimmer of hope. Her sense of humor was her greatest tool; she could find a reason to smile or a witty observation in almost any circumstance, bringing light and laughter to those around her.
Grayce’s greatest pride was her large, devoted family. She is survived by her daughter, Sharyn Dingus (husband Jim), and her three sons, William "Bill" Papst (wife Angela), Jeff Papst (wife Debbie), and Greg Papst (wife Amy). She was preceded in death by her dear siblings, Annabelle Lowry, Veronica Randall, Lucy Chill, Mary Pica, Helen Dardynsky, Edward Print, Louis Print, Donald Print Sr.
She was cherished by her nine grandchildren: Jennifer Gaines (Brent), Emily Papst, Allison George (William), Andrea Newell (Turenne), Tyler Dingus (Jenny), Blake Papst, Waylon Papst, LeeAnn Hohmann (Kyle), and Shelby Papst.
Her legacy of love, faith and creativity will continue through her great-grandchildren, Will and Abby Gaines, Grace and William George II, Gwen, David and Daniel Newell, James and Lilly Dingus, Adelynn Papst, Murphie Ann Hohmann and Lucy Blake Hohmann.
After moving from Pennsylvania to Lexington, Kentucky, Grayce and Frank settled in Austin, Texas, in 1971. Throughout her life, her faith remained a cornerstone of her strength, and she was a long-time member of the Saint Thomas Moore Catholic Church community. She later attended Christ the King Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky with her family.
Grayce will be laid to rest alongside Frank at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. She will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her kindness, her endearing spirit, and her beautiful, positive soul.
The family is grateful for the love and care Wanda Thomas provided in being a wonderful caregiver and companion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators, Lexington Catholic High School or The Cathedral of Christ the King.
