On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, our beloved Guadalupe “Wally” DeLeon received his wings rejoining our Lord. Wally was born on May 31, 1979 a beloved son to Ezequiel and Beatrice DeLeon from Houston, Texas.
In 1983, Wally and his parents along with his brothers, Ezequiel DeLeon Jr. and Jesse, moved to Austin, Texas where they found their forever home. Wally’s love for sports began when he was five years old by playing Pee-Wee Baseball. In middle school, he started playing football which continued into high school, where he wore the number 79 for the Pflugerville Panthers Football Team. After graduating high school in 1998, Wally attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, Southern Career Institute where he earned his Technical Certification in Phlebotomy, and he completed his Continuing Education Training in Phlebotomy Skills at Austin Community College.
Wally’s journey in life was forever changed on November 5, 2007, when he met the love of his life, Diana Gamboa, through MySpace. What began as an online connection blossomed into a beautiful love story that spanned nearly two decades. They spent nine wonderful years together before marrying in 2016. Their marriage was a testament to their deep bond, lasting for eight and a half years. Together, they shared not only a love for each other but also for their beloved Pitbull Terrier Mix fur baby, Ali, who was a cherished part of their family.
For those 17 years together, Wally and Diana were inseparable, enjoying everything from concerts, musical festivals, sporting events, to domestic and international trips. They did many firsts together such as riding in a helicopter in the Grand Cayman Islands, swimming with dolphins in Cozumel, swimming in clear blue water in both St. Maarten and St. Thomas, visiting Puerto Rico, enjoying Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Together they also explored cities like San Francisco, Santa Monica, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Dallas, Port Aransas and last but not least, he enjoyed taking his parents to the WinStar Casino in Oklahoma. It can be said that Wally loved to travel.
In addition to traveling, Wally was a huge sports fan! He especially loved the Texas Longhorns, the Houston Astros, and the Austin FC Soccer Club. He loved to attend and cheer for UT at their basketball and football games. Any chance he got, he was traveling to watch the Astros and Austin FC games. And if he wasn’t watching them in person, you better believe he was watching them on the big screen.
Wally was an amazing person. He was quiet, kind, selfless, funny, and always had a big presence. He had this way of showing up for people — not in a loud or flashy way, but in the everyday things: checking in, remembering what you liked, making sure someone ate or got home safe. Always making sure everyone else was okay, often before himself. Wally’s memory will forever live on in those of us that he touched. He will surely be missed!
He is survived by his wife; Diana Gamboa and fur baby; Ali DeLeon father; Ezequiel DeLeon and brothers; Ezequiel DeLeon Jr. and Jesse DeLeon; sisters; Paty Garcia and Gloria and brother; Sergio; Father and mother-in-law; Federico and Betty Gamboa; brother-in-law; Daniel Gamboa and 19 nieces and nephews and many cousins.
