Gustav Emil Blomquist, 83, of Austin, Texas, went home to Jesus late the night of October 24, 2020. His loving wife Amy, step-daughter Raquel, and granddaughter Katelyn were serenading him in the last hour with hymns, worship songs, and reciting passages of scripture. The last song sung was the hymn “I Surrender All," and he breathed his last.
Emil was an Austin native. He received his high school diploma while serving his country as a US Marine. Emil worked for the Texas Water Development Board and retired after 33 years.
Emil was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Amelia Moreno Blomquist; step-daughter Raquel Nevarez Dishinger and husband Charles; grandchildren Katelyn Dishinger and Will Dishinger. Emil was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice and Arthur Blomquist, brothers Oscar Blomquist and Waylan Gallemore and sister Joan Benoit.
Emil accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and devoted his life to serving others. He had a kind word for everyone, a distinguishable sense of humor, and an unforgettable laugh that brought joy to those around him. Emil was no longer able to walk on this earth, but we believe His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ took him by the hand that night, and walked him into Heaven. His loved ones who had gone before him greeted him, and there was a great celebration and reunion.
You will be missed dearly, Pops, but we know we will see you again! We are comforted by the faithfulness, goodness and promises of our God, and the words of Jesus, Himself to us in the Bible: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have not told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” John 14:1-3
There will be a private graveside ceremony with military honors. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 10:30 am, Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial gifts can be made to Bible Study Fellowship: bsfinternational.org.
