

Guy Junior Carpenter was born the 21st of October 1931 in Port Isabel, Texas at the home of his parents Guy L. and May Carpenter. He was called home by our Heavenly Father on the 18th of November 2010, at his home in Georgetown, Texas with his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara, by his side.
He graduated from Port Isabel High School in 1949 and attended Brownsville Junior College until 1951, when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served his country overseas during the Korean War until 1954 when he received an honorable discharge. Guy was awarded the Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service he completed his education at the University of Texas in Austin where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1957. He met his wife Barbara in Houston in 1957 while working for Foley’s. They were married on June 8, 1958. Guy began working for the Texas State Highway Department from 1958 until 1963 and then transferred to the Federal Highway Administration until he retired in 1988. He was a faithful husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.
Guy was preceded in death by his brother Curt Carpenter. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Barbara Carpenter; his two daughters Mindy Brown and Kelly Sheffield and his son Daren Carpenter; grandchildren Lindsay Brown, Taylor Brown, Aaron Sheffield, Caleb Sheffield and Leah Sheffield; brothers Ron Carpenter and Gordon Carpenter; sisters Joyce Herr, Phyllis Rae Cronin and Janie Kuehn and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude and deepest thanks to the caregivers who cared for Guy over the past 3 years. They did so with grace and mercy and in such a way that allowed Guy to maintain his dignity until the very end.
Services for Guy will be held Sunday 11/21/2010 at the memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks. Burial, with military honors, followed in Cook-Walden Memorial Hill Cemetery.
