Gwendolyn Gail Basey passed away on July 22, 2023, in Schertz, Texas, after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Though Gwen’s health was failing for years, her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing to fight. She was 67 years old.
Gwendolyn- or Gwen, as she was known to friends and family- was the fourth child of Reginal and Jeanetta Basey, born on August 24, 1955, in Austin, Texas. She had seven brothers and sisters: Oliver, Bobbie, Ellen, Annie, Cherie, Harvie, and Betty. Gwen became a mom to Wendy in 1975, Garry in 1979, Shawna in 1982, Brandon in 1984, and Leslie in 1987.
Gwen loved trying new foods, cooking, learning new hobbies, sewing, crocheting, and attending any family function or big milestones with her family, from her children to her grandchildren to siblings to nieces and nephews. She was there for everyone when they needed her or not. She was always smiling, laughing, and could be found reading one of her many books. She will be greatly missed and loved. Gwen made lifelong friends from childhood and continued her friendships throughout her life.
Gwen is survived by her children: Wendy and Alan Pinel, Shawna and Bert Weatherby, Brandon and Krystal Curry, and Leslie Curry; her grandchildren Abigail Davis, Christopher Davis, Michael Nandin, Jr., William Curry, Thomas Weatherby, Blake Curry, Calvin Weatherby, and Zoey Weatherby; her siblings Bobbie Basey, Ellen Wilford, Betty Hart, Annie Hernandez, Cherie Vangelia, and Harvie Basey, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son Garry, her parents Reginal and Jeanetta Basey, and her brother Oliver Basey.
A visitation for Gwendolyn will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660, followed by a funeral service at 2 P.M. A committal service will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
