Harriet spent her youth in Three Rivers, Tx, enjoying the languid pace of a small town as well as all the tomfoolery that is inherent to having an open spaced childhood looking for any adventure. She was sensitive soul, perhaps an empath, but that was counterbalanced by her fun-loving nature which earned her the vote for Most Fun to Be Around in High School for her quirky sense of humor and timing. Leaving the small-town life, Harriet went on to receive her BA in Music from Incarnate Word University and began teaching in public and private schools in Texas as well as Washington DC. Her unique ability to keep the attention of her young students through her humor and trickster methods made her a favorite amongst her students.
Harriet was also a gifted guitarist with a beautiful voice and was a regular entertainer in local venues in Houston when not teaching. With her beautiful reddish blonde hair, she was known as Rusty Nail to her music fans. Harriet married in her thirties, and they moved abroad to Indonesia where her dear son, Robert, was born. She loved the culture and was literally a giant among the people, as she liked to say, given her tall height in comparison to the locals. After two years, she decided to return home, sans husband, to give Robert the opportunity to grow up in Texas. Initially they returned first to Three Rivers, then over to Houston and Clear Lake before settling on Friendswood where they would reside until she retired from teaching. Then it was off to Austin to start a new chapter.
Retirement kept her busy as the unofficial communications officer for the Schulz family, keeping and sharing extensive notes on everyone’s lives and events. Keeping family in touch was extremely important to Harriet. Her nephews & niece became her new focus, and she maintained a birthday calendar to ensure that everyone always felt special and noticed. She was declared the inventor and developer of WhizBang toys, a term coined by Harriet to describe toys designed to bring the most bang for a buck before terminating in glory. She definitely had a true knack for finding toys to fit that billing much to the delight and amazement of her charges, making her Great Aunt Harriet to them all. As these kiddoes grew up and started their own families, she continued to wow the newer little ones, this time with an iPAD! Harriet always loved technology and quickly incorporated the latest tech into her life. As a longtime fan of crosswords, she moved to the online version before the rest of her siblings even knew that was an option.
Harriet became a member of the Baca Senior Center in Round Rock and gained many new dear friends. Board games, live bands & dancing were regular events. She loved being a senior and all the perks that came with the title. There was an unspoken but known “queen chair” at every relative’s home and Harriet enjoyed owning the room. She had an infectious laugh, quick wit, and ready comeback for any comment. She has moved to another realm, but her spirit will always be with us!
Harriet is survived by her son, Robert Lewis Robinson and his wife, Rebeca Littleton Robinson, siblings, Mary V. Johnson, Betty Schadle, and Peggy Saenz and husband, Leo Saenz, and sister-in-law, Alicemary Schulz and husband, Allyn Weber as well as a niece and numerous nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She is predeceased by her beloved brother, Harry Schulz, Jr. and parents, Harry and Virginia Schulz.
