Harriett Carevich Clements, born July 7, 1947, passed away on July 23, 2026, in Austin, TX. She is preceded in death by her lifelong partner in crime, Ronnie Clements, her parents John Anthony Carevich and Henrietta Morales Carevich, her nephew Dustin Harvey, and her beloved grandparents and the numerous cousins she loved so much.
Harriett was born in Houston, TX, into a large Sicilian family on her mother's side, who were specifically from the Mezzojuso area. She always said all the Italians in Houston are related somehow though. Her father's family, from Zagreb and Korčula, Croatia, lived in New Orleans, LA. Harriett loved spending summers in New Orleans with her cousins. She and her parents lived with her grandparents, Bat and Jennie, in Houston. Her grandparents meant the absolute world to her, and if you knew her and them, you knew this to be true. She attended St. Vincent De Paul Catholic School, and graduated from St. Agnes Academy, Class of 1965. She remained lifelong friends with many of the girls she met in school, some of whom she's known since the beginning. She attended University of St. Thomas for a time, majoring in art history, but eventually started working for the Houston Oilers. This always provided her family, in current times, with some pretty good stories (and also an incredible knowledge of football plays, better than some coaches out there!). She loved all those women she worked with back then, and remained friends them as well.
She eventually met Ronnie Clements on a blind date. Her mom said she liked him, he was a nice boy, and to give him a chance. Shortly after this, they got married in 1974.
Harriett and Ronnie moved to Austin, for Ronnie to finish his degree at UT. Harriett worked at the Population Research Center on campus in the sociology department, typed thesis and dissertation papers for extra cash, and the two spent some of that money at Quality Seafood on Fridays, because she said the money went the furthest then. She worked so hard at both jobs, so Ronnie could focus on school. She remained a lifelong fan of the Longhorns as well!
After Ronnie got his degree, they moved back to Houston. And in 1978, they had Stephanie. Harriett wanted nothing more than to be a mom and was thrilled that she finally got the chance. During this time, Harriett also worked at the UT Dental School, and she again met lovely co workers and enjoyed her work there.
Two years after having Stephanie, they moved to San Antonio for Ronnie's work. While there, Harriett became a room parent at Stephanie's school, took her to see every musical ever made that came through town, showed her different art museums, took her to every ballet, tap, baton, piano, etc, etc, lesson, and planned and executed the absolute best and creative birthday parties.
After the adventure was done there, Ronnie's work landed them back in Houston, where they settled in Kingwood. Harriett was ecstatic to be back around family, as she always told Stephanie that family is everything. She eventually became a choir parent, and readily volunteered, again meeting lifelong friends. She was always ready to chaperone anything, if needed, including driving around some crazy teen girls in a Jeep Cherokee. Harriett was also known to drive some crazy college girls around too. But that's just how she was, making sure everyone was okay and cared for. She had the best advice as well, and that continued to the day she passed.
Years later, Harriett was thrilled to find out she was to be a Nonna in 2013. Giuliana arrived, then Brendan, and Weston. Nonna loved having Giuliana spend the night, doing make up and nails, and going shopping. She loved picking Brendan up from school, playing video games with him (she tried, at least), and watching national geographic shows. She loved Weston's hugs, seeing his love of animals, and looked forward to when he could stay the night too. She always had hugs available for Weston, ice cream in her freezer for Brendan, and Dr. Pepper for Giuliana. She was the best Nonna, all around.
Harriett is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Glen) Gee, her grandchildren Giuliana and Brendan Gee, and Weston Gilley, her sister in law Pam Gripe, her nieces Ashley (Craig) Staley and Megan Lilley, her great niece Halle Staley and her great nephew Barran Lilley, as well as numerous cousins and friends whom she was so very close to over the years.
Harriett was a fighter, resilient, and had a bigger than life personality. She was a survivor of Breast Cancer, loved Hallmark movies, making lasagna and Italian cookies (when she could), reading every new book that came out, entertaining, and did everything she could for Stephanie and her grandkids. She was literally the most supportive person of anyone who needed it. She is missed beyond all measure and would want everyone to celebrate her like the life of the party she was.
Miss you forever, Mom.
