Helen LaNell (Bostic) Brown, age 81, of Austin, Texas, beloved sister, aunt and great-aunt, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 27, 2022. LaNell, as she preferred to be called, was born to Willard M. (Jim) and Lela Helen (Klemm) Bostic at her Grandmother’s house in McDade, Texas on June 20, 1940, and was the elder of two daughters. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas, graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin.
LaNell began her career at the Texas Automobile Insurance Service Office, where she made several life-long friends, and later began her 30 years of employment with the Texas State Board of Insurance while volunteering some of her time with FEMA in disaster areas. During this time, she was an active member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, Altar Guild, Flower Guild, and as the church’s Wedding Coordinator. Creating arrangements while on the Flower Guild allowed her to demonstrate her love of flowers and plants. Her interests included her pets and collecting clown memorabilia. She was a passionate Longhorn fan, attending football games and rooting for her Longhorns. Shortly after retiring in 2015, she suffered a stroke and has been living at The Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock. LaNell made meaningful relationships with many and was a great friend to everyone she met, lending a helping hand wherever she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sister Donna Stark and husband Randy, niece Shannon Black and husband Jason, nephew Shawn Stark and nephew Craig Stark and wife Brandi, great-nieces and great-nephews, Dalton, Morgan and Jaden Black and Colton and Berkly Stark.
The family wishes to thank the loving staff at The Cottages and Divinity Hospice for their care and compassion. She loved everyone there and felt loved every day.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville on Friday, April 1, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
