On February 2, 2020, Henrietta McKenzie passed away at home in Jonestown, Texas surrounded by her family. She was 96 years old.
Henrietta was born in Austin, Texas on January 26, 1924. She married James McKenzie on December 17, 1941 in Rock Springs, Texas. After her husband finished boot camp she worked near him until after the War. She then started her long career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, only taking off to have her children, Linda and James. After her retirement in 1985, she stayed active with SWBT as the president of the retirees, “The SWBT Pioneer's”.
Henrietta loved her Texas Longhorns and she wore her burnt orange with pride. She was infamous for her high kicks, even into her eighties, when the Horns would score. She loved to cook and have family gatherings. She loved watching birds come into her and her husband’s garden, and was able to identify each one. She was proud of her American Indian Heritage as a member of the Choctaw nation.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Wretha Moran; her husband, James B. McKenzie; her sisters, Margaret Eastman and Rose Nell Harris; her son, James A. McKenzie. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Holden; son-in-law, Alan Holden; grandchildren, Aimee Cain and Joe Holden; great-grandchildren, Travis Holden, Garrett Holden, Vance Holden; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 7, 2020 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. with committal following at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
