Horace had a different name for each of his different environments. At school he was Horace; at work, he was known as Mr. Horace; to family, he was Unc’, Uncle Johnny, Junior, Uncle Junior; and his friends called him Houston.
He attended college for two years after attending Carter C. Raymond High School in Louisiana. Horace loved his classmates and never forgot where he came from and enjoyed his class reunions. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He worked for thirty-seven years in manufacturing and has been retired for the past seven years.
Houston was an easy-going relaxed man who never had a lot to say, but what he said was important. He was soft-spoken and never angered. Horace was always encouraging with a shoot for the moon attitude. One of his favorite sayings was, ‘People give you periods but the Lord gives you a comma.’
He was a member of Shoreline Christian Center for 9 years. He loved life and that showed when his whole body shook while he laughed. He collected guns, enjoyed nice clothes and nice cars. His greatest hobby was spending time with his family. He cherished his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
Leaving Horace to cherish his memories is his wife, Helena (Scott) Jones; daughter, Susan Jones; step-daughter, LaKisha Eureste and husband Chris; stepson, Nathan Mitchell; grandchildren, Victoria, Christopher, Christina, Stephanie, Andrea, Kaitlin, and Jordan; his sisters, Daisy O’Dell (Clarence) and Erma Ross and husband Leve; his loving in laws, Terri and Lazard Harrison, Pamela and Kevin Hart, Michael Scott, Sheryl Scott, Jeffery Scott, and Eurel Henton; Godchildren – Rita Pantillion, and Tevin Henton; as well a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding Horace in death were his parents, his sisters, Louvenia Henton and Betty Lavergne and brother, James I. Jones.
