

James (Jim) Walter Menke entered the Church Triumphant at age 81 on Friday, July 25, 2014, in Austin, Texas, surrounded by his family. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on June 16, 1933, of parents Walter and Lorna Menke.
Jim graduated from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois, followed by a graduate degree from Michigan State University. His life’s dedicated calling involved ministering in the Lutheran Church as teacher, principal, choir director, and church organist for over 60 years, as well as serving in various capacities as athletic director, coach, and Bible class teacher. He enjoyed extensive travel, church league sports, and card-playing with friends, but his greatest pleasure was his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Roth), sons Jim, Jr. (Karen), Steve, Tom (Becky), Ken (Marcy), and daughter Janis Leal (Roland), as well as 22 grandchildren and 3 (4) great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1513 E. Yager Lane, Austin, Texas, 78753, on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran School or Our Savior church organ fund.
