James Allen Johnson of Hutto, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. James is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda; treasured son, Chris Johnson (Cherry); grandchildren, James Christopher Johnson, Bryan Johnson (Naomi), David Johnson, Casey Johnson and JJ Smith; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey, CJ, Tyler, Shane and Dylan Johnson. James is survived by his brothers, Roger Johnson (Beth), Philip Johnson (Cathy), Donald Johnson (Beckey) and his sisters, Peggy Raines, Janet Brewer, Mary James (Larry) and Nancy Norris (Lindley). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
James was born to the late John Thomas “JT” Johnson and Ruby Clark Johnson on January 5, 1944, in Collin County, Texas. James grew up on the family’s farm near Prosper, Texas.
James was preceded in death by his brother Johnny Johnson (Wynell) and by his close friend, Daryl Hargrave (Susan).
James was very proud of his service in the U.S. Army from 1966-68 during the war in Vietnam. Before and after his military service, James worked for State Farm Insurance as an underwriter until his retirement in 1999. Linda also worked for State Farm Insurance as an underwriter and retired in 2003. James and Linda forged lasting friendships with many co-workers whose friendships endure to this day.
James and Linda made many other friends and acquaintances over the years at Charlie’s Steakhouse in Pflugerville, Texas, where they were “regulars.” You could find them there at the big round table at the end of the bar almost every Friday night, and often on Saturday night too.
Upon retirement James and Linda built their home on acreage outside of Florence, Texas, and raised longhorn cattle with their neighbors, Joe and Sandy Mathis. James enjoyed woodworking and built many beautiful quilt racks, games boards, etc., in his enormous barn and woodworking shop for the enjoyment of friends and family. Due to health issues, James and Linda downsized and moved to Hutto, Texas, in 2015. James also enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling in their RV and playing blackjack in Kinder, Louisiana.
Linda would like to thank special friends Bobby and Cheryl Arnold for their friendship, guidance and assistance during the sale of their farm and the purchase of their home in Hutto. She would also like to thank special friend Susan Hargrave and her late husband Daryl, for their long-time friendship and help.
Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Graveside services, with military honors, will be on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
