(Jeremiah 29:11) James’ Journey started with Jesus. Reverend James Limuel was born on June 20, 1928 and was raised in Garfield, Texas. He was the third child and the eldest son of the late James Limuel, Sr. and Cora Houston Limuel.
(Psalm 32:8) His public school education was in the Del Valle school system. He attended Barber College and worked on East 6th Street for several years as a licensed barber. He later was hired by First Federal Savings and Loans as a porter before moving up to mail clerk where he coordinated deliveries between the eight Austin branches. His employment there lasted for 28 years and he met some coworkers who became life-long friends, in particular Mr. Joel Scott.
(Ephesians 2:8) Reverend James Limuel accepted Christ and was baptized as a young man, early in 1950 under the leadership of Reverend R. Q. Allen at Corinth Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon and faithfully served there for many years. His name is listed on Corinth’s Deacon-Trustee Cornerstone which was erected in March of 1959. He enjoyed preparing, teaching, and preaching God’s word.
(Ephesians 4:11-13) Reverend James Limuel was called “To Be God’s Servant” and he took this task very seriously never wanting to waver from it. He never hesitated to share his knowledge about Jesus and he had a very generous and helpful spirit. (Psalm 41:1-2)
Reverend James Limuel moved his membership to First Baptist Church in 1973 under the leadership of Reverend Vernon Manor. He loved sharing his God given wisdom and was a teacher of the Brotherhood Class. He attended Sunday school, worship services, teacher’s meetings, and prayer meetings faithfully and he was active in all areas of the church. He was interim pastor twice as the church went through transitions. During one of these transitions, Reverend James Limuel was ordained as a preacher under the leadership of Reverend Nathaniel Thomas. Reverend James Limuel served 46 years at First Baptist. He was also presented an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the Guadalupe School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas.
(Psalm 37:4) Reverend James Limuel had a desire to work, have a house, and to live his life to the fullest. God blessed him with these things and so much more. He loved his family, his church, growing his gardens and plants, and was a great cook (what greens he could cook.)
