James Nelson Mewhort (Jim) was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 23, 1938 to parents George James Mewhort and Eleanor Nelson Mewhort. Jim was an only child. He passed away on May 27, 2026 at the age of 87.
Jim grew up in the Mid-West, mostly in Des Moines, Iowa where he graduated high school and attended the University of Iowa. He loved to golf and was a big fan of baseball, basketball and football. He is survived by his three children, Mike Mewhort, Bryan Mewhort and Suanne Mewhort Czap. He was a very supportive father, his children were active in many activities including sports and family motorcycle gatherings. Jim liked to take vacations, spend hours on end in a station wagon and visit new places. He was a funny guy and liked to tell jokes and stories to pass the time.
Jim was a salesman at heart. He worked closely with his father in the Truck and Bus Equipment industry, eventually taking over the business altogether. In 1976, he moved his family to Round Rock, Texas and opened a business called Sonshine Bus Sales. He sold used school buses and vans to churches or groups. He traveled frequently, and employed many people in his business as drivers and mechanics. He was kind to everyone.
Unfortunately, life was not kind to Jim. He suffered an illness where he required constant care and although he was confined, he was still as positive and upbeat as his usual self. He spent the past eight years in a great home where he lived comfortably until he just passed.
Jim was a devoted Christian and there is no doubt where he is now
