Coach Wilson felt like part of my family since 2010. He watched my girls grow up as he refereed them in volleyball and basketball, and always had a kind word for them. I was honored to know and work with him, and will miss him so much. He was generous, funny and always paid attention to the details. He was truly a great man.

Our family had the blessing of knowing James as one of "the Carolers" for
over 60 years.  James and the carolers brought Christmas spirit to our
family year and year.  "It's not Christmas till the Carolers sing." In addition to singing, he amazed the kids with his magic tricks!  He 
was kind,gentle, always had a smile and a laugh, sincere, humble, caring, faithful.

Thank you to the family for sharing him with us on Christmas Eve for so many
years.  We were blessed to get to know Georgene and Blake's family family as well
in more recent years.   May God's grace comfort you and shower you with
sweet memories.

I really enjoyed meeting him at HEB and helping him get all the things on Ms Georgina grocery list lol. I wrote this message several times as Coach has been such an inspiration... Every phone call, "This is Coach!" HT-C was my family away from home. Coach Wilson took me under his wings as I played basketball for Coach Golden.  So many mistakes along the way, but he never gave up on me. Coach helped me learn the game from another perspective while putting money in my pockets as an official. He helped me stay grounded in the word at Greater Mount Zion. Loved it so much my family would come visit whenever in town. 
When I graduated and received my fist coaching position I couldn't wait to call. I said "This is Coach." We shared laughs and he let me know that he was proud. Since graduation in 2004, we spoke every holiday. He remembered EVERYONES name.
Thanksgiving, I was able to stop by the house to sit with him and talk about life. Letting him know that I loved him and appreciated all the wisdom he instilled in me. On Valentines my mother and I drove to Austin. She prayed for him, we took pictures, he made jokes, and we laughed just like old times. Love you Coach, rest in Heaven 🏀😇



May the God of Hope fill you with all joy & peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope (Romans 15:13). To The Wilson Family,

I would to send the family my condolence.  Coach Wilson loves to help children.  The reason I am still coaching to this day is because of Coach Wilson.  He showed me the Xs and Os of being a coach but instilled in me how to prepare young minds for life.  The "Coach" will be truly missed because he touched so many lives at HT and in the community. Coach came into my life when my youngest daughter moved to Austin to attend college at the University of Texas.  He took my daughter Mickey under his wing, and watched over her, cared for her, and checked up on her regularly!  Once I met him, he ALWAYS did the same for me!  He would call me in California on Mother's Day, Christmas, and my birthday!  Coach has touched the very depths of my soul, and will forever have a place in my heart! I loved him tremendously, and I will miss him with all that I have.  Thank you James "Coach" Wilson for being in our lives, and for making us better people because of you.

My father, Brannen G. Temple, Sr. And Coach Wilson were  buddies! I remember running around the HT campus after school waiting for my Mom to get off work. Coach Wilson always smiled and spoke to us, kids,. He would do a magic trick where he'd find a quarter behind your ear!  What fun we had laughing at this one magic trick, everytime he did it! Sending my condolences and prayers to the Wilson family. Coach Wilson was a very inspirational and positive role model for us. I came to HT from Detroit and played basketball for him from 1971-1975🏀 not knowing anyone or anything about Austin Texas he treated me like his own. He talked about his family often and that inspired me to want to be successful and with his mentoring I can honestly say I’m more successful than I could have ever imagined I’m truly blessed and living by his example today thank you Coach Wilson for being there and above all Praising the Most High for bringing us together.

I will miss Coach Wilson dearly!! Gave me my first job as a sports official while I was attending Ht… inspired me to become the AKA I am today ! There will never be another Coach Wilson ! I have been blessed my entire existence to have my (uncle) James Robert and Georgene watching over me.  If you truly knew them you always mentioned both of them together in the same breath.

James Robert broke many barriers and set even more standards for all to strive to achieve. His reach was way beyond the boundaries of Austin and the borders of Texas. My uncle was a well-respected and loved national figure and for much more than his memorable call at the legendary Orange Bowl game. Nothing was more important to him, and nothing brought him more pride and joy than his wife, his sons and daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren.

I love you, Uncle. Thank you for being in my life and a my  lifelong inspiration.

Coach Wilson was a jewel to my crew from FtWorth,Houston and Galveston girls. He would advice us who to leave along and who like us. But he pushed study, get an education and become somebody.Love and condolences to the family . Wanda Session Perry  class of 1972.

One of the fondest memories I have of "Coach" was holding a spot for him to park his vehicle in the lot Sunday mornings. He already knew to look for me, and if I saw him first, I would flag him down. He always had the biggest smile getting out of that car, and even a bigger heart. I gained a lot of wisdom from him, and he consistently spoke into my life. I am blessed that we shared those moments. Coach, you've fought the good fight and finished your course. Take your rest, sir, until we meet again.

I've had the pleasure of knowing Coach for a number of years.  Never once did I see him as a referee.  I coached many games with him present, and I only saw him as a warm-hearted individual that was there to help out the youth, the coaches, and his fellow officials.  He took the time to teach the game to the kids, and he did so from his heart and from his faith.  He impacted so many lives throughout the years.  Knowing him made you a better person.  

I will miss our weekly chats and interacting with him about sports, life, and religion.

Coach Wilson was a kind and sweet friend. As an Athletic Director, I worked with him to organize games for my students and he was always very helpful. He and I would laugh about how he officiated games for me back when I was in 8th grade and how he once gave me a cough drop for my sore throat.
