Jean E. Teak-Kingsbury died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Round Rock, Texas. She was born August 19, 1942, in Port Huron, Michigan. Jean married David Teak Kingsbury on November 24, 1973, in Port Huron, Michigan. They moved to Austin Texas in 1980 and remained in the area until their passing.
Jean was a licensed foster parent and she commonly cared for the most abused children. Over the years, she fostered 27 abused and sick children. She provided them a loving environment until they were adopted. She made sure they were taken to their medical appointments, rehab appointments and everything else they needed.
Jean had a passion for bowling. She was a constant figure at Highland Lanes. She not only bowled, but she was on the Board of the league in many capacities. She competed in pro-am tournaments and had lifelong friends from the bowling leagues.
Jean was a finalist for KVUE TV’s Five Who Care series which honors those who have made a difference in our community.
In 2014, Jean suffered a medical setback that took away her ability to walk. She became disabled and required a wheelchair. Jean was forced into a nursing home due to not being able to care for herself. She was lucky enough to get accepted at Trinity Care Center in Round Rock. Jean spent ten years at this facility wheeling up and down the halls. She became the president of the Resident’s Council. She knew all the staff, residents and everything that was going on at this facility. She was known as the puzzle lady because she was always working on a puzzle. She advocated for the residents' rights and she helped with all activities at the facility. She adored the staff and she really cared for her extended family at Trinity Care Center. She somehow made friends with kitchen staff and was able to get special meals even though she was their biggest critic. A fresh supply of Coca Cola and chocolate can work wonders.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Steve (Renee) Lucas of St Clair, Michigan, Joe (Jackie) Lucas of Taylor, Daughters Brenda (Tim) Gage of Georgetown and Andrea Kingsbury of Round Rock and daughter in law, Lisa Lucas.
