March 1, 1944-August 13, 2024
Jerie Lee Orr passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, after a full and happy life.
Jerie was born March 1, 1944, in San Diego, CA to Frank and Marion Cox. She was the 2nd out of four children.
More than anything else, Jerie's life really began when she met the love of her life, Philip Fred Orr. Married on April 9, 1962, they were blessed with three children, Philip Eugene, Lisa Lee and Paul David. She loved her family and the life they had together more than anything. Phil and Jerie were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary prior to Phil’s passing in May, 2022.
Jerie and Phil were a true “Bell” family. She started working for Southwestern Bell in August 1967 during the University of Texas rush. She became a full-time employee in 1968 as a service representative and in 1970, she was promoted to a business representative handling the State of Texas and the University of Texas accounts. She was quickly promoted again to business office supervisor in 1971. In 1979, Phil was promoted to manager over the Midland area. Jerie and Phil relocated their family to Midland where they stayed until 1990. During her tenure there, she continued to move to different management positions but was most proud (and challenged) when she had the opportunity to establish a motor vehicle repair service for the Southwestern Bell fleet. After nearly 24 years of service, Jerie retired from Southwestern Bell.
The family returned to Austin in 1990 to be closer to family. Philip continued to work for Southwestern Bell while Jerie enjoyed retirement. For about a year, Jerie was the happy housewife, washing, folding and ironing clothes, preparing supper with dessert when everyone got home in the evenings and keeping a perfect house. (Now, for those of you who really knew Jerie know this is not entirely true, but she insisted it be included in her obituary.) Anyways, she quickly realized there was a void in her life and turned her attention to volunteering.
Jerie volunteered countless hours for the Telephone Pioneers of America, working in SWBELL’s community relations group, and Sports Vision 20/20, where she became involved in Beep Baseball. She traveled the country, attending Pioneer assemblies, not only during her tenure with Southwestern Bell but also into retirement serving as the Chairperson and president of all faces of the group. She involved her children in the projects which helped foster their involvement in helping others. Beep Baseball was near and dear to Jerie’s heart. She worked hard to keep the Pioneers actively involved with the program to help the visually impaired athletes gain opportunities and have the resources to compete in tournaments.
Jerie never met a stranger. She respected our military, always going out of her way to thank them for their service if she saw them out and about. She loved family, always helping to keep the Orr Family Christmas tradition going even when families were scattered. Jerie was a loving wife. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Jerie was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Fred Orr, her parents, Frank and Marion Cox, her son, Philip Eugene Orr, her grandsons, Justin Orr and Brandon Orr, her brother Terry Cox and sister Cynthia Cox. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Lee Lincoln and husband, Anthony Lincoln, her son, Paul David Orr and wife, Jill Orr, her brother, Jesse Cox and wife Teresa Cox, her grandchildren, Cody Orr, Alexis Assi, Phillip Orr, Noah Orr, Madelyn Orr, Dawson Orr, Brandon Lincoln and Mackenzi Lincoln, and many great-grandchildren, including Wyatt Lincoln, Tatum Lincoln and the newest addition, Isla Orr. She was also the aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20th at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services following at noon at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 N Interstate Hwy 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660. A short reception will be held immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sports Vision 20/20, 4106 Ridgeline Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 or https://sportsvision20-20.org.
