

Jerry joined the U.S. Marine Corps on February 13, 1947 and served his country in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on February 12, 1950. Upon returning home from the military, Jerry began his career as an industrial machinist in Houston, Texas at Haygood Tool Company and in Longview, Texas at Slumber J Oil Company. Following his retirement in the early 1970’s, Jerry resided in Goodrich, Texas until moving to Austin, Texas in 2005 to be closer to his family.
Jerry shared his life and love with his children, Keith, Darrell, Janie, and Eddie. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Darrell Shelby. Jerry leaves to cherish his memory daughter, Janie and her husband Steve Hamby of Pflugerville, Texas; sons, Eddie Shelby and his wife Paula Shelby of Houston, Texas and Keith Shelby and his wife Rhonda Shelby of Maui, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jamie Hamby and his wife Shauna Hamby of Round Rock, Texas, Tim Hamby of Austin, Texas, and Heather Hamby Thompson and her husband Trey Thompson of Round Rock, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Trent Hamby both of Round Rock, Texas.
Jerry was a loving father of four, grandfather of five, and great grandfather of two. Jerry was full of life and always had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed attending family events and occasionally having a cold Bud Light. Jerry was unconditionally loved by his family and will truly be missed.
Jerry’s family will greet guests at a visitation to be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Graveside services to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Texas Liberty Rotunda at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery with Honors performed by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.
