Born in Fort Payne, Alabama on December 21, 1937, J.L. grew up in Gadsden, Alabama. He was married to Nancy Tubbs Shortnacy on September 19, 1956 and had a life-time career as a professional truck driver and entrepreneur.
In his younger years before driving, J.L. worked for General Electric of New York/New Jersey and then moved to Austin, Texas where he worked for the Austin Police department. He loved traveling and seeing the beautiful country side so he began driving a truck. He worked for companies such as Herrin, Berry, Melton and Lone Star where he transported anything from gas, pipe, cold goods and many things in between. He was very good at what he did and received many driving safety awards.
In between those positions, he either started or helped to start other businesses, such as Economy Construction Company, Little House Bar-B-Que, Hi-Valley Trucking and; finally, J and N Trucking with his wife, Nancy.
J.L. had such a passion for life, music and family, and as hard as he worked, he was a giving man. He never hesitated to help someone in need.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Tubbs Shortnacy of Austin, Texas; his son, Johnny T. Shortnacy of Marble Falls, Texas; his daughters, Brenda L. Shortnacy of Austin, Texas and Judy Shortnacy Sullivan and husband, Vince Sullivan of Menchaca, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Johnny Shortnacy, Jr., Jessica Sullivan O’Connor, Dylan Sullivan; and his great-grandchildren, Leticia Alazae, Jeremiah, Johnny Ray, MacKenzie, Josiah Linkon, and Jacob Ryan.
