In 1948 Joan was working for Wilkins Jewelers in Manchester when she met her husband of 67 years, Michael Georgulis, Sr. Michael was stationed in Warrington with the US Army Air Corp., assigned with the Berlin Airlift effort after WWII.
Joan and Michael were married on October 24, 1949 in Oldham, England. Upon Michael completing his tour, they made their home in Monesson, Pennsylvania. In 1950 Michael was recalled into the US Air Force. Joan and Michael enjoyed multiple assignments for 28 years bringing them to Austin where they ultimately retired.
Joan enjoyed a 16 year career as a department supervisor with Texas American Bank (formerly North Austin State Bank) and retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Eastern Star for 46 years with her last membership at Norton Moses Masonic Lodge #336 in Leander, TX. She was also an active member of the TBPA , (Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association); helping to organize a number of fund raising events. In addition, Joan supported her husband's events including their efforts with the Shriners for Children's Shrine Hospital. She was a member of the ASPCA. Joan and Mike also adopted a number of German Shepherds from the Austin Shepherd Rescue Center in North Austin.
Joan thoroughly enjoyed her family and home, gardening, singing, playing the organ, sewing, knitting, cooking/baking, hosting friends/family and traveling with her husband extensively.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Michael; her parents, her two brothers, Brian Hill of Oldham, England and Colin Hill of Oldham, England.
Joan is survived by her loving four children, Karyn Raschke (Larry) of Leander, TX; Michael Georgulis Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; Sandra Ihrig of Round Rock, TX; and Mark Georgulis (Jodi) of Valparaiso, FL, James (Jimmy) Georgulis, Brother-in-law (Belle Vernon, PA); 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joan will be greatly missed by all of us.
