Fifty years ago Uncle Ed and his lovely wife Aunt Imogene graciously welcomed me into the Bailey/Shuberg family at my wedding. It has been a privilege to call them aunt and uncle all these years.  I include both of them in this remembrance as they were truly ONE, devoted to each other in a marriage that lasted over 65 years. Family meant everything to both of them. Even though they had no children of their own, they embraced their nephews and nieces,.. of several generations.. as their very own children. They were  the personification of the perfect Uncle and Aunt. They greeted with great affection, each new-born baby and were the doting uncle and aunt.  They hosted many Christmas Eves for family at their beautiful home. You could count on Uncle Ed and Aunt Imogene to always be present at family gatherings ..They were always there to celebrate weddings, births and yes.... there to console others at family funerals. Uncle Ed's special gift, to the delight of every family member, was telling stories.  He was the best story teller ever! Uncle Ed graciously agreed to record some of his stories a few years ago, leaving a precious verbal inheritance for his family. Uncle Ed was very devoted to his only siblings, his two older sisters. As I have remembered the stories they fondly shared of their childhoods...a sweet thought came across my mind...I had to chuckle thinking..Uncle Ed will eternally be ...Opal and Margueritte's beloved baby brother ..the baby brother that went bear hunting at 4 years old....I'm so pleased that my children had the joy of knowing that beloved baby brother as their Uncle Ed. We, Margaret & Gary Brewer, have fond memories of Ed & Jean having been their next-door  neighbors for almost 48 years, since our first child, Angela, was 2 1/2 months old when we moved in.  Angela was introduced as "the new neighbor".  Two years later Laura was born.  Ed would tease them constantly which they and he enjoyed immensely and they all would inquire as to how Ed was doing after he had to leave his home.  He even teased their children and they called him "Mr. Shuberger".  When we told them about Ed's failing health, it was very upsetting to Chloe, the 10 year old, she said, "Why does that have to happen?"
And I, GARY, have so many memories of Ed, starting with Whitman incident at UT, as I recall Ed was the first officer on site, and I was driving into Whitman's line of fire and decided to turn around before I got to the tower and go back to eat lunch with Margaret and newborn baby Angela.. I think it was about a month later we moved next-door to the Shubergs and thus started a lifelong memorable friendship with Ed and Jean. Fishing trips to the coast, lunch and dinner outings, etc. Whenever we were with him he had stories to tell, especially about growing up, work, UT, and the outdoors...
We will miss you a bunch ED, and

Uncle Ed,  we will really miss you.   We always enjoyed our visits with you and Aunt Gene.  You left us with many great memories of family and your childhood.  Thank you for your example of kindness, gentleness to both humans and animals.  Your good deeds were an example of your love. We will miss your smile and your special humor. Uncle Ed,
We love you and miss you.  We enjoyed seeing you during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  You always had a smile on your face and hope you are resting comfortable now.  Love Brittany, Matthew, Jacob and Jamie.

My dad Bill Sanders and Ed were cousins and I have many nice memories of family get together with all the Butlers Sanders Baileys,  He was a great and good man and My Brother Mason.

Uncle Ed, Thank you for all the stories you shared with us about your childhood and the humor that you found in every story you would tell. I will never forget the enjoyment you would express when telling your story. I will miss you dearly. Rest in peace.

Uncle Ed, thank you for the wonderful family stories and valuable lessons that you've shared through the years. You're truly an authentic man and the last of the 'great generation'.  You led by example and I'm forever grateful for all your guidance.  You will be loved and remembered forever, Lisa P.
