John A. Goines, Jr.

John A. Goines, Jr. of Austin, TX passed away on March 25, 2021. He was born in Morristown, New Jersey on August 19, 1939, son to the late John A. Goines, Sr. and the late Christine Mays. He is survived by his spouse, Leona Rogers Goines, a marriage that lasted 58 years. Also surviving are his three children, Vikki Goines, John A. Goines III and wife Cristi, and Wanda Harbaugh and husband Richard and family. He is also survived by a sister, Kathy Gary and family, a sister-in-law, Bessie Goines, widow of Herbert (deceased) and family, and sister-in-law, Ingrid, widow of Robert (deceased) and family.

John joined the Air Force at an early age and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after 26 years of service. He traveled to many states and countries as a member of the Inspector General Team. He graduated from Park University while still in the military. After retiring from the military, he went to work at Abbott Labs in Austin, Texas as a Supervisor and retired after 20 years.

He belonged to several Fraternal Organizations; a member of Toast Masters and was a volunteer for Reading is Fundamental, at local elementary schools in the area. He was also involved with the UT Austin LAMP program.

He enjoyed baseball, repairing things, music, science fiction, ancient history and more. He loved talking with everyone and bringing joy to children.

A private inurnment will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
