John Arthur Kaeding, Sr.

John was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Louis and Vera Kaeding on February 9, 1940. He was lucky enough to be fostered by Dude and Mary Daniels of Ainsworth, Nebraska and Roy and Mary Alice Atkins of Halsey, Nebraska. He had a wonderful life in the sandhills and was a diehard Cornhusker. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army and then settled in Austin, Texas. He began a long career with Safeway, Tom Thumb and Randall’s as Produce Manager.

In 1993 John and Alice retired to the Guadalupe River at Tivoli, Texas. His throat cancer had come back after 2 years and the decision was made to have a complete laryngectomy in April 1994. He lived a full life fishing and travelling with Alice to many places but they loved South Fork, Colorado and Nebraska the best.

In January 2011, John and Alice bought an RV and moved to Bastrop, Texas to be closer to Cindy and Kathy. Only four weeks later, Alice had a stroke and only lived until August 14, 2011. Kathy and her husband, Joe, bought an RV and moved next to John five years ago to help monitor him from any bad behavior (ha ha). He also loved to go to Oklahoma and Louisiana gambling. He always talked about looking for a nurse with a purse, but knew that Alice was his one and only.

He will be deeply missed by his family. Surviving him are Mary Daniels (foster mom), daughters, Debbie Nelson of Round Rock, Texas, Bonnie Adachi (Preston) of Elgin, Texas, John Jr. of Connecticut, Debbie Campbell (Bob) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cindy Gangstad of Austin, Texas and Kathy Schoen (Joe Wilcoxen) of Bastrop, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Also, he is survived by his foster brothers and sisters who he deeply loved, Danny Daniels (Teri), Brenda Lemay (John), all of Ainsworth, Nebraska; Sharon Davis (Larry) and Sandra Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, Al Atkins (Sallie) of Halsey, Nebraska, and Larry Atkins (Barb) of Grand Junction, Colorado.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, brother Robert, Dude Daniels (foster father), Roy and Mary Alice Atkins (foster parents), John Gangstad (son-in-law), Clint Nelson (son-in-law) and many sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws.

We are eternally grateful for the care he received the past 27 years from Dr. Brad Winegar of Austin Ear Nose & Throat.

What a life he had with Alice and now they are together again.
