He was born on June 11, 1933 in Santa Monica, California to Marian (Foote) and Morgan Seymour Tyler. He served in the United States Marine Corps from July 1950 until January 1952. John graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering. On August 14, 1955, he married Sylvia Giovanna Manzoli, who preceded him in death on May 16, 2021. His work with Union Oil provided him the opportunity to live not only in the United States, but also in Scotland, Norway and Thailand.
John is survived by his daughters, Debra Synatschk and Rena Spencer; sons, Dr. John Tyler Jr. and Brian Tyler; sons-in-law, Bruce Synatschk and Jon Spencer; daughter-in-law, Melissa Tyler; seven grandchildren, Eric Synatschk, Christine Coulter, Kaitlin Ludwick, Jake Ludwick, Mason Tyler, Austin Tyler and Brysen Tyler; six great-grandchildren; and Kim Patterson and Paul Ludwick.

A visitation for John will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 in The Mausoleum Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, with the funeral service immediately following beginning at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
