John graduated from Lockhart High School. John was a Tool & Die machinist. During his career he was employed by Capital Machine Works, Tracor and Nalle Plastics. He also had his own shop in his garage where he spent many nights whistling while he worked.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, and held office with the Austin Square Dance Association, and danced with the Shirts & Skirts, and Mid-Tex. John loved to dance. He was a referee for football, baseball, and basketball and refereed many of his children's high school games. He loved to talk sports. He was involved in politics and attended several conventions, and volunteered at his local voting precinct. He loved to argue politics. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling during the week and dancing on Saturday night at Roger's Ranch Hall in Niederwald. He would also join in the Turkey Shoot events there. Target practice only, he did not like hunting except the water moccasins in his favorite swimming hole on the farm. He enjoyed camping and boating with his family on Lake Travis, pulling his children skiing hours on end. He was a great storyteller and loved doing it.
John met the love of his life, Alma Kopplin Wahl, and they enjoyed a 61 year marriage. John is survived by his wife Alma, daughter Johanna Eades, son Billy Wahl, and daughter Annette Pike and husband Mickey. Grandchildren, Christopher Geddes and wife Cindy, Kati Yee and husband Kevin, Kevin Pike and
fiance Ashton Clifford. Great grandchildren, Tristan Yee, Aralyn Pike, Brandy Markert and husband Wayne, and Nicholas and Daniel Markert, and sister Marlene Wahl. He was preceded in death by his father Willy J. Wahl, and mother Edna Wahl, of Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas; visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday. Burial will follow the services at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
