

Jose was born on August 12, 1930 in Kingsville to Manuel and Luz (Vega) Amaya. He retired from the Army after over twenty years of service, and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He then began his second career and retired after more than twenty years of working with the Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the NALC, and St. Martin’s Church in Kingsville.
Jose is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Isabel Medrano Amaya, who passed away in 2004. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Joe Amaya, Jr. of Austin and Michael and wife Gigi Amaya of Round Rock; daughter, Rosie and husband Keith Norwood of Bertram; four grandsons, Joseph and Cody Amaya of Austin, Corey Amaya of Pittsburgh, PA, and Dustin Norwood of Leander; two granddaughters, Amanda Amaya and Jennifer Batton of Round Rock; and great-grandchildren, Braeden, Bryson, and Anabel. He is also survived by his brother, Jesus Amaya of Kingsville.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, with a rosary and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. The Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road in Austin. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
