Joyce Estell Turner Miller; beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother; went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2018, at the age of 92. She was a warm person with the gift of hospitality. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
On June 9, 1926, Joyce was born in Austin, Texas. She attended Pecan Springs School in Northeast Austin, when it was just a one-room schoolhouse. In 1945, she graduated from Austin High school.
Joyce met her husband of 64 years, John E. Miller, on a blind date after he returned from military service during World War II. They were married in August of 1948 and had two children. When her children were older, she served as a volunteer at St. David’s Hospital on E. 32nd St. in Austin.
Throughout her life, her door was always open, and she made sure that no one left her house hungry. She was an excellent cook. Her enchiladas were so popular that whenever she served them, family joked that they were eating at El Joyce’s. Joyce left an impression on those who knew her. Her daughter, Beverly, said that her mom and dad were role models for her throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Miller; her son, Kenneth Wayne Miller; her parents, Lawson Doc Turner and Maggie May Turner; and her three older sisters and four older brothers.
Joyce is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Ann Miller Kuchar and John Kuchar; her daughter-in-law Christine Miller; her grandson and his wife, Jonathan Kuchar and Kimberly Kuchar; her grandson, Jason Kuchar; her granddaughter, Shelby Miller; her great-grandson, Daniel Kuchar; two cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was also loved by her caregivers who worked at the assisted living facilities she resided at in Austin and Cedar Park. One of the nurses said, “Joyce left her footprint on my heart.”
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home: 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas, 78660. The funeral service will be held in The Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, with the committal service immediately following at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
