Judy Louise Benedict, 78, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025. Judy was born in Temple, Texas on November 28,1946, to Hubert and Louise Reese. She met the love of her life, Tom, in 1966 in Killeen, Texas while he was stationed with the US Army in Fort Hood. They were married on April 22, 1967, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Killeen, and moved to Waco later that year. Beginning in 1969, Judy and Tom spent a few years in Fort Worth before settling in Austin in 1971 and later moving to nearby Pflugerville in 1986. They were sealed as a family in the Salt Lake Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 12, 1979.
Judy attended Durham’s Business School and worked for many years as a bookkeeper. She also was a homemaker while raising her young children. Judy was an active member of the Pflugerville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called several times to be a librarian at the church and enjoyed other volunteer and social activities with her church friends. Judy loved flower gardening and shopping. She also enjoyed knowing and sharing all that was going on with her seven grandchildren. Judy was born on Thanksgiving Day and also celebrated her last birthday on Thanksgiving, which seems fitting because she loved to gather for family meals and spend time together. While she enjoyed meals out rather than cooking, she did make a mean banana pudding!
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Thomas Benedict; sister Phyllis Reese; son Darren Benedict and wife Tracy and their children Matthew, Ashley and Sarah; daughter Amanda Stansel and husband Thomas, and their children Rachel, Haley, Kayla, and Brandon; numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family and friends. Judy was predeceased by her parents Hubert and Louise Reese, and her grandchildren Brendan and Brian Stansel, and Braden, Dallin, Ashlyn, and Kaitlyn Stansel.
Visitation will be held at the Pflugerville Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Thursday, July 3rd beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial service following at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will be held that afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
